Free care for local children
Each year, Jeff Caldwell Family Dentistry hosts Give Kids a Smile Day in Columbiana County. The office works with local schools, after-school programs and day-care centers to provide free dental treatment to area elementary students in grades 2–4.
Each child sees a dentist for an examination focused on cavities and other dental concerns. Students receive a professional cleaning and fluoride treatment. When needed, sealants are applied to permanent teeth to help prevent cavities from forming.
Education children can take home
The visit is also a field trip built around useful, age-appropriate education. Children learn about a healthy diet, daily care for their teeth and the importance of seeing a dentist every six months.
Every child leaves with a goody bag containing a new toothbrush and toothpaste—simple tools that help carry the lesson home.
